In 1956, the Africa-America Institute (then called the African-American Institute) published the first issue of Africa Report. The publication began as a monthly typed newsletter and went on to become the most significant Africa-focused publication in the U.S.
Africa Report chronicled for Americans the transformations and struggles of a little-known and poorly understood continent that was about to embark on a path to political independence after centuries of colonialism, oppression, and exploitation. From 1956 through 1995, Africa Report provided in-depth analyses of the continent's dramatic political and economic developments.
AAI has embarked on an archival project to make all historical issues of Africa Report available online and searchable by subject. At this time, researchers needing specific articles or excerpts from a specific period can contact AAI to request a .pdf copy of the magazine.
NOTE: The historical Africa Report is not affiliated with the magazine currently published under that name.
