South African Black University Faculty Skills Enhancement Program (SABUFSEP)
1993 – 1997
Between 1993 and 1997, AAI administered the South African Black Universities Faculty Skills Enhancement Program (SABUFSEP) in collaboration with the Educational Opportunities Council (EOC), a South African NGO. As the successor program to AAI's University of Western Cape Graduate Program (1989 – 1993), SABUFSEP provided short-term training and research opportunities in the United States for 70 black junior faculty members from eight of the South African historically black universities. The SABUFSEP program gave its participants the opportunity to not only enhance their professional skills, but to strengthen the development of human resources planning processes and structures at these South African universities. In addition, SABUFSEP encouraged collaboration between South Africa’s historically black-owned universities and U.S. universities.
