World Wildlife Fund Russell E. Train Scholarships and Fellowships in Mozambique and Madagascar

2002 – 2005

Between 2002 and 2005, AAI partnered with the World Wildlife Fund to recruit and select African participants for the Russell E. Train Scholarships and Fellowships, which provided two years of university conservation training. The fellowships sponsored African conservationists to earn master’s and Ph.D. degrees in environmental conservation studies at institutions in Mozambique, South Africa and Australia. AAI activities included convening committees of local educators and conservationists in each country to recruit and select fellowship awardees. Upon completion of their academic program, participants returned to their home countries to contribute to conservation efforts and manage natural resources in those environments.
