Since its establishment in 1953, the Africa-America Institute has developed and administered higher education and training programs which have produced over 23,000 alumni from 50 African countries with funds provided by multilateral, U.S. government, private foundation and corporate donors.
AAI’s programs have ranged from the East African Refugee Program (1962-1971) that provided education and training in East Africa for Southern African refugees to the Claude Ake Memorial Award Program (2002-2005) that provided funds for outstanding candidates to carry out innovative research aimed at promoting Africa’s development.
