Promoting enlightened engagement between Africa and
America through education, training and dialogue.

The U.S. has an important stake in Africa's future and an informed public including policymakers, businesspeople, community activists, and opinion leaders is essential for long-term support of U.S. engagement with African countries.

AAI’s Education, Outreach and Policy (EOP) programs provide opportunities for U.S.-Africa engagement and dialogue in key sectors and around important issues of significant and mutual concern. Since AAI's “African-American Dialogues” conference series began in Nairobi in 1968, AAI’s EOP programs have provided a platform for African perspectives that have informed U.S. policies towards Africa, and presented American policymakers, journalists, and citizen advocates with balanced information about Africa and the ways in which Africa’s and America’s futures are linked.

Activities carried out under this program include study tours and exchange programs, discussion series and symposia, policy forums, advocacy and online discussions.

Current EOP programs include:

AAI also regularly partners with other Africa-focused institutions and programs to host events which educate Americans about a wide range of Africa-related themes and issues and raise Africa’s profile among the American public. Events include book launches, screenings and luncheons with visiting African dignitaries.
