AAI Wins US$5 Million USAID Grant for Mozambique Training

On January 6, 2006, The Africa-America Institute (AAI), with a field office in Maputo, Mozambique and headquarters in New York City, was informed that it had been selected as the sole contractor to administer USAID’s Mozambique Participant Training Program (MPTP). USAID stated that “capacity-building and training continues to be critical to the achievement of the goals of the Country Strategic Plan in Mozambique.” AAI will partner with USAID/Mozambique to administer the $5 million, five-year program, providing the following services:

  • Administration of short-term training to take place in Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa, and in the United States
  • Administration of long-term training to be undertaken mainly in South Africa
  • Coordination of training follow-up activities that will focus on developing internship and grant programs that will benefit both the returning trainee and other USAID/Mozambique target beneficiaries
  • Organizing capacity-building activities that will focus on strengthening local technical schools and universities' capacity to deliver training to an even greater number of individuals who will contribute to the economic growth of Mozambique

Under MPTP, AAI will provide long-term university training to 60 individuals from Mozambique in South Africa and Costa Rica over four years, and provide short-term training and activities.
