Beyond Genocide: Rwanda’s Strategy for Middle Income Status by 2020
Having emerged from the genocide in 1994, Rwanda is focusing on the future and has instituted an ambitious plan for national technological advancement coupled with economic development. In this seminar, The Honorable Romain Murenzi, Rwandan Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Research, discussed the strategies for this national plan. These strategies included: heavy investment in technical education, secure occupation in a niche in the field of information and communications technologies (ICT), and the development of a knowledge-based service sector, while simultaneously pursuing policies aimed at spurring entrepreneurship and promoting regional economic integration.
