AAI Alumna, Betty Bigombe, Presents: The Peace Process in Northern Uganda: The Role of the Mediator
AAI Alumna and 2006-2007 USIP fellow, Betty Bigombe was the keynote speaker at The Peace Process in Northern Uganda: the Role of the Mediator, a public event coordinated by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) in Washington, D.C. Ms. Bigombe has had, over a period of many years, more extensive contact with the leadership of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) in Uganda than anyone else. At this event, Ms. Bigombe shared her insights on the following topics:
- What has she experienced as the chief mediator in this conflict?
- What are the prospects for a peace agreement between the LRA and the Ugandan government?
- What impact has the International Criminal Court indictments had on the peace negotiations?
- What motivates the LRA?
- What lessons has she learned of value to other mediators?
