AAI’s President & CEO, Mora McLean, moderated a foreign policy panel discussion on Africa from the Perspective of U.S. Global Strategic Interests at the Annual Membership and Board Meeting of the National Committee on American Foreign Policy. The panel of experts consisted of William J. Brencick, Minister Counselor for Political Affairs at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations; Dr. J. Peter Pham, Director of the Nelson Institute for International and Public Affairs at James Madison University; and Ambassador Herman (Hank) Cohen, President of Cohen & Woods International and retired career diplomat (who held several State Department posts including, Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs). Echoing many of the themes explored during AAI’s day-long symposium on Africa’s Response to Terrorism in February 2006, the presentations and Q&A session that followed at Africa from the Perspective of U.S. Global Strategic Interests highlighted Africa’s widespread support for the U.S. and the broad objectives of the "War on Terror", and the importance of not taking these strategies for granted.
