Luncheon Discussion: Liberia's Vision for the Transition
The Council on Foreign Relations invited Mora McLean, AAI’s President and CEO, to preside at a luncheon discussion, Liberia's Vision for the Transition, featuring Charles Gyude Bryant, the Chairman of the National Transitional Government of Liberia. Chairman Bryant was in the U.S. for an international donors conference in New York at the United Nations on February 5 and 6 to seek funding for the reconstruction of Liberia. At the luncheon, Chairman Bryant gave an overview of his government’s priorities during the transition period and a preview of his address to the UN. He also discussed the Transitional Government’s promise to implement universal primary education, the need to rebuild and strengthen Liberia's universities, and the need for investment to create jobs. The Chairman answered questions from the audience on child soldiers, regional cooperation for peace, Charles Taylor, disarmament, agribusiness, the finance industry, maritime revenues and capacity building.
