Claude Ake Memorial Award Alumni Conference

AAI and the Centre for Advanced Social Science (CASS), in partnership with the African Studies Association (ASA), hosted the Claude Ake Memorial Award Alumni Conference in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The event marked the completion of AAI’s 5-year Claude Ake Award Program, which was established in 1999 in honor of the life and work of Nigerian scholar, Claude Ake. Attended by program alumni and regional scholars and members of the academic community, the Conference, entitled The Legacy of Claude Ake and Social Activism, sought to encourage the establishment of a core group of dedicated scholar-activists comprised of Claude Ake Memorial Award recipients. Sessions focused on the practical application of research findings; and strategies for leveraging participation in the Award Program through expanded research networks, research grant writing, and scholarship on emergent development problems. Professor L. Adele Jinadu presided as Master of Ceremonies and Professor Ibeanu Okechukwu delivered the keynote address.
