Alumni Network

Over the past half-century, more than 23,000 individuals from Africa and the United States have benefited from AAI’s portfolio of higher education and policy programs. AAI's higher education programs have enabled Africans from 54 countries to receive postgraduate education in the United States as well as short-term training in the U.S. and Africa. The vast majority (approximately 90%) of AAI alumni have returned to Africa to play leading roles in improving the lives of their compatriots, in the development of their countries, and in bringing their countries into the global economy. They are teachers, healthcare providers, professors at educational colleges and technical universities, scientists and engineers responsible for communications technology and road-building, businessmen and women, heads of non-governmental organizations. AAI's alumni have become Presidents, Prime Ministers, Ministers of Education and Nobel laureates.

Together, AAI's alumni stand at the forefront of social change: fostering the growth of democratic governments, raising literacy rates, expanding women’s rights, improving public healthcare delivery systems, introducing the economic reforms necessary for their nation to compete in the 21st-century knowledge-driven global economy. AAI's alumni throughout the continent are leading Africa toward a stable, productive, and democratic future.

Profiles of just some of AAI's 23,000 alumni are featured on this website. To learn more about AAI's alumni, the sectors they work in and the contributions they are making in Africa today contact AAI's alumni outreach office at (212) 949-5666 or e-mail: alumni@aaionline.org.

AAI has long promoted networking among participants of its various training programs from the moment of selection to graduation and beyond. The collaborations, camaraderie, and friendships that are formed become lifelong relationships and develop into informal systems of networking that support further success. Formal AAI alumni associations exist in many African countries, and AAI periodically convenes alumni for regional and national conferences and symposia.

To further these goals, AAI is currently developing a powerful alumni network feature for this website. This feature will allow alumni from anywhere in the world to connect with one another through online discussion forums and a searchable directory. With over 23,000 alumni from across the African continent—many of them in positions of leadership today—AAI envisions supporting the emergence of a powerful informal network of influential Africans through the creation of this new resource.

Watch this space for the upcoming launch of the AAI alumni network. If you or someone you know is a graduate of one of our programs, please contact us at alumni@aaionline.org.
