Some key events in the 2000s included:
- The Africa-America Institute hosted 20 African Perspectives roundtables to give American policymakers and key business and opinion leaders overviews on pressing issues relevant to Africa, 2000-2003
- The Africa-America Institute published Contact Africa, a directory of U.S. organizations working in Africa, in 1999 and 2001
- As part of the AFTECH Initiative The Africa-America Institute held colloquia on
Accelerating Workforce Development in Africa in Windhoek, Namibia and Accra, Ghana, 2004
- With funding from the United Nations Millennium Development Campaign The Africa-America Institute organized the Africa and America Connecting Worlds(AACW) lecture tour featuring H.E. Romain Murenzi , Rwanda's Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Research and Professor Silas Lwakabamba, Rector of the Kigali Institute of Science, Technology and Management (KIST), 2005
- The Africa-America Institute, in coordination with Columbia's SIPA Pan-African Network (SPAN) and New York's PBS station WNET Channel 13, hosted a screening of Carol Pineau's documentary film Africa: Open for Business at Columbia University, 2007
- AAI Trustee Maurice Tempelsman, Chairman of Lazare Kaplan International, and The Africa-America Institute hosted a reception and book signing in New York City for H.E. Quett Ketumile Joni Masire, former President of the Republic of Botswana, in honor of his new book, Very Brave or Very Foolish: Memoirs of an African Democrat, 2007
