AAI IN THE 90'S

 

The following AAI programs were established in the 1990s:

Some key events in the 1990s included:

  • The Africa-America Institute leads a team of 70 observers to the regional and local elections held in Ethiopia, 1992
  • The 40th issue of Africa Report: "Forty Years: the blink of an eye in the progression of history, but to Africa Report and its publisher, the African-American Institute-and to independent Africa-a period of birth, growth, and profound change. " Message from the Editor, 1994
  • The Africa-America Institute and the Government of Ghana co-host the 24th Africa-American conference in Accra, 1994
  • Delegation from The Africa-America Institute attended the 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing, China at which AAI hosted a workshop on Women in Politics, 1995
  • African Women in Politics -Together For Change conference was held in Gaborone, Botswana. The conference was co-sponsored by the Africa-America Institute, Emang Basadi, the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), and Women in Law and Development in Africa, 1995
  • The Africa-America Institute hosted the "Investment in South Africa Conference" in Windhoek, Namibia in partnership with the Keidanren, the Japanese Federation of Economic Organizations, The Government of Japan, The Government of Namibia and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), 1996
  • The Africa-America Institute participated in the first CIVITAS Africa Conference in South Africa, 1997
