AAI in the 1970s

The following AAI programs were established in the 1970s:

Some key events which took place in the 1970s included:

  • The Africa-America Institute Lesotho conference. The Lesotho meeting presented the first opportunity for many African representatives to travel within a palpable distance of South Africa to discuss the issue of apartheid, 1976
  • The Africa-America Institute's Media Workshop, held in March discussed ways to improve and expand coverage of Africa in the American Press, 1979
